Most people would think that decorating a Christmas tree needs a huge budget, but what if you are low on cash during the holiday season and don’t want to splurge too much on Christmas decorations?

Decorating a Christmas tree doesn’t need a big budget. All it needs is a few materials, creativity and patience in getting some Christmas tree decorating ideas on a budget. When making ornaments and decorations for you tree, look for readily available materials such as colored paper, wrapping paper, colored plastic, tin cans and anything else you can find around the house which can be turned into beautiful Christmas decorations.

Take paper for instance. You can create many things with colored paper and the best thing for Christmas ornaments would be origami ornaments. Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding. A quick search on the internet will provide you with a wide variety of instructions on making everything from snowflakes to holly leaves, to Santa Claus himself, to even candy canes and wreaths. All you need is colored paper and patience to come up with shapes of different items both big and small and multicolored to Christmas tree decorating ideas on a budget.

You can also decorate your tree with popcorn. Popcorn is definitely the cheapest of all Christmas tree decorating ideas on a budget. Whether real, artificial or wall mounted, the Christmas tree would look great with garlands of decorated popcorn. Shape it into huge balls or even into snowman, you can use popcorn and paint them with colors or tie them with ribbons or even pair up the popcorn with other nuts and raisins to form an interesting garland.

Making homemade Christmas tree ornaments is definitely something. It’s unique, it’s different and it’s special. Many people would opt to buying Christmas tree ornaments so if you have the time, then make homemade Christmas tree ornaments this time around. The first thing you should do is to select a theme for your Christmas tree décor. Having a theme would make it much easier to make the ornaments as you don’t waste time or materials. You can determine how many ornaments you can make, how many materials you need and what different designs you can make.

Say for instance your theme for this year’s Christmas is ‘White Christmas’, so its either your tree or your ornaments and décor that has to be following in white. If you have a white artificial Christmas tree, then your ornaments could be red, or green, or both to contrast handsomely with the white of the tree.

Or you can even make homemade beaded ornaments that dazzle and glitter such as snowflake ornaments in crystal beads or crystal bead garlands and streamers to give the glittering look for your Christmas tree, as if it is bedecked in jewels and diamonds. You can even make homemade Christmas tree ornaments by recycling items from you home such as costume jewelry that you are no longer using, miniature dolls and old photos. You can even make paper Mache decorations like mini snowman or angels or paper Mache balls colored with silver and gold pens. If paper Mache can be messy for you, then opt for Styrofoam to shape the angels and snowman. Color them with shiny metallic paint and add some beads and sequins and even star dust to add some shine and glitter.

If you are not the traditional type when it comes to decorating your Christmas tree, then you should explore some of the modern Christmas tree décor that seems to be flourishing at the turn of the 21st century. Traditional décor gives the home a warm, cozy feeling where as modern décor is more edgy, elegant and fancy. It probably wouldn’t emit a cozy feeling but it will portray the tree owner as being creative, art savvy and hip. One thing for sure is that you wouldn’t find a modern Christmas tree décor in your grandmother’s house.

If you are an artist, or an art enthusiast, then decorating your tree using the design elements from some of modern day’s popular artist is a good way to go. Personally, I like Andy Warhol’s art so this Christmas, it’s an Andy Warhol tree. First thing to do is research about the artists- that is if you don’t know his designs by heart. Take a look see of what his styles are about, his designs aesthetics, his design principles and you can compile a few things here and there to create an Andy Warhol Christmas tree.

For instance, Campbell’s soup labels are worthy to illustrate the pop artist. Use the classis red and white label, but open the bottom of the can and wash them without marring the label. Fix a ribbon or wire loop to each can and wrap the branches in red lights to finish the modern Christmas tree décor of Andy Warhol’s art.

Christmas tree decorations have evolved since its introduction. Some use the most bizarre decorations while some stick to the traditional Christmas tree décor. A quick search on the net will show you that there are two popular traditional Christmas tree décor: Country and Victorian.

The Victorian way is generally more of an expensive way in Christmas decorations compared to the all American country style décor. The American décor is widely used because of its readily available decorations, fabrics and other easily found materials and mostly used on a more robust tree that is wider than a Victorian tree. In the country style, a robust natural pine is used although any type of fir tree can be used. The Victorian traditional Christmas tree décor is used on a taller, slimmer version. The Victorian style is much older than its country counterpart, thus fits a slimmer tree.

The country style décor existed in the United Stated in the 19th century. Decorations used in the country styled traditional Christmas tree décor surrounds a rustic themes from country styled ornaments to the use of wood, tin, stuffed toys, velvet, ribbon, glass and tinsel. The Victorian styled version is much grand because is uses the decorating style of the English, in Queen Victoria’s era. The décor used is very Victorian Era and extremely elaborate. Ornaments usually found on a Victorian themed tree are musical instruments, animals, angels, portraits and birds and shapes come in cones, spheres and globes. The main materials of all these ornaments are usually tin and glass to give the illusion of lavishness. A Victorian tree is usually cluttered looking so go wild on the decorations and ornaments.

Probably the saddest part of the holiday season is the time when the Christmas tree and all the holiday’s decorations have to be taken down and stored. In a poem from Maya Angelou, she states that you can know about a person through how they deal with Christmas lights. Well, Christmas lights aside, what about how to store a Christmas tree?

Knowing how to store a Christmas tree is important because you will be using it every year, unless it’s worn out and you plan on buying another tree next Christmas. Improper storage can damage your tree but worry not since there are many ways you can store your tree properly either in plastic boxes, or bags or storage containers.

If you have a large empty box, it could prove to be an ideal storage place for your tree. These boxes can be used to store ornaments, sequins and beads, garlands as well as other décor items. Old shoe boxes and tin cans are also good storage spaces for small items such as beads, or even fragile decorations that can break easily. Take note to remove the decorations carefully so as not to harm the tree. As soon as the decorations are taken off, its now time to put in the tree itself into its box. Most Christmas trees come with a detachable stand, so take it out if there is one and store the tree and the stand in separate boxes.

Label all the boxes so that you know what box contains what items as well as which side to place it. After properly placing all items into their respective boxes, seal the boxes so that it remains undisturbed till the next Christmas. Keep these boxes in or on top of cupboards, in the attic of storage shelves in the store room.

Shopping for Christmas tree decorations is a wonderful experience. You can go over the top with the decorations or you can follow a theme when shopping for Christmas tree decorations. If you are budget shopping, instead of buying a whole new set of decorations, you can just opt for buying a few items to update the look of your Christmas tree. Buying tinsel garlands are a good choice apart from buying a few new baubles.

Alternatively, you can create your own ornaments. Go DIY this Christmas instead of shopping for Christmas tree decorations although we all know how much nicer that idea is. The thing is, everyone will be having that same decorations in their home just like you. So personalize you tree with DIY décor. It really is not harm in putting your hands to create some new ornaments- it’s one of a kind, memorable and doesn’t burn your pocket. A good DIY Christmas ornament would be poinsettia. Nothing screams Christmas like the poinsettia. All you would need is layers of red wool felt and three pearl beads to make this ornament.

Apart from that, you can make your own mini snowman by sticking one small polystyrene ball with a bigger one and go crazy with the face, nose and arms off the snowman according to your own creativity. You can create different emotions with each polystyrene Santa from being smiley faced to blushing to being excited. Use stray beads and cloth to make a beaded snowflake ornament instead of the store bought ones or you can even make your very own bead garland to decorate your Christmas tree with.

When I was a student and I couldn’t go back home for Christmas, I decided to bring the cheer to my tine apartment instead. Bear in mind that it was tiny so no six foot tall Christmas tree could be brought in. Still, that didn’t stop me from brining the Christmas cheer. What better symbolizes Christmas then a Christmas tree right? I decided to buy myself tiny little apartment, a tiny little Christmas tree and decorate it with miniature ornaments. Decorating with miniature ornaments for the Christmas tree provided the same wonderful feeling as decorating a huge tree.

Shopping for my miniature ornaments isn’t hard. There is a wide variety of mini ornaments for small Christmas trees that come in the most myriad of themes from colored baubles to tinsel to decorative ornaments. What I found in my miniature ornaments shopping trip was also a Tree Trimming Kit that had matching ornaments that come in Gold glass balls, silver balls, colored beads and bells garland as well as multi colored ornaments to aid in decorating my miniature Christmas tree.

Of course you can be decorating with miniature ornaments following a certain theme. A good option is to decorate your tree with miniature angels or with miniature gift boxes- to go with the theme of presents. Lighting should be kept minimal as an over crowded miniature tree would look to messy. One-colored fairy lights are a better option compared to multi-colored lights if you are using a lot of ornaments and décor. Or another option would be to decorate your Christmas tree with just colored lights than decorating with miniature ornaments.

Since the conception of the Christmas tree to celebrate Christmas, the Christmas tree has gone through tremendous changes in themes, decorations as well as from the evergreen tree to more art-inspired in white or red or even metal Christmas trees. Some people have an annual Christmas tree theme- preferring to follow a certain décor throughout Advent with exceptional colors and décor items.

Some choose to decorate their Christmas tree using ornaments that has a certain memory- such as travel memories or vacations, or for newlyweds- their first honey moon souvenirs. Other decorate is with ornaments, baubles and items of a special interest. I know of a Coca-Cola fan who decorated his all white Christmas tree with Coke paraphernalia. The red of the mini Coke bottles contrasted finely with the white of the artificial Christmas tree.

If you have kids, a good Christmas tree theme would be a Candy Theme Christmas tree with ornaments that range from wrapped candy canes, fake candy canes, wrapped mints, candy garlands, assorted wrapped candies, candy shaped ornaments, snowmen, Santa ornaments and white lights. Your Christmas tree should be the traditional evergreen so that the candy ornaments can be seen clearly. If you are using real candy, make sure it is tightly wrapped and can be kept outside the fridge. Also, the expiration date shouldn’t be too short so that when your kids eat them when its time to take the tree down, they aren’t spoiled. What better way then to have an edible Christmas tree.

Each festival has its own symbols associated with it and its no exception for Christmas. Probably the most well known symbol or item associated with Christmas is undeniable the Christmas tree. Most of us put on the Christmas tree to symbolize the holiday season, or the Advent season though not many of us know the origins, history or reasons connected to the tree and the Christmas tree décor.

Historically, the Christmas tree tradition is credited to the Germans who were devout Christians who brought the decorated trees into their homes. The trees that were normally used were fig trees that were connected to the Holy Trinity-the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. One popular belief is that the 16th century Protestant reformer- Martin Luther King was the first to add candles to a tree, being inspired by the brilliance of stars twinkling amidst evergreen trees while walking home on a winter evening.

In America, Christmas tree décor brought by the Pennsylvania German settlements were seen as pagan symbols and not accepted. Like many other Christmas customs, the Christmas tree was adopted much later in America. In 1846, Queen Victoria and her German Prince, Albert were shown sketched in the Illustrated London News standing around a Christmas tree with their children.
